A design speculation on a typical vernacular house: Ying Xiu House in Liu Keng Village, Southern China.
"
After analyzing the Ying Xiu House, I focused on the original wood frames of the vernacular house, and forward with the idea of adding concrete frames to the existing wood frames perpendicularly. Frames and the space created were like plugins to the house, forming public and private entrance on the two sides. The plugins are extending upwards creating new spaces connecting public and private.
The concrete frames introduced is parallel to the original wood frames. it created two new space which is beyond the roof of the main houses: One larger in the front house which act as the public area and the smaller one in at the back house act as the private area. Both areas allow access to the rooftop area on top of the concrete frame.
