A Häagen-Dazs shop analysis and speculation design in Tai Po Mega Mall; Integration into a shophouse in Hong Kong.
"
Far away waking, the luminous logo and the walls with the signature wine-red color of Häagen-Dazs attracted my attention. As a ice cream fan, it was not possible to walk pass it. Having the advantage of being the first shop in the corridor, two large openings were made to passerby. Entering the shop, I followed the strong scent of cookies and cream flavoured ice cream to the counter. The path was narrow, as majority of the space is designed with customer sittings, Whether it be L-shaped sofa, bar sits or normal table sits, lots of sittings were made to cater different customers' need. Furthermore, illumination was more than enough, numerous spotlights covered up the whole ceiling. The light reflects from the large glass display cabinets and glossy poster's to one and another, every corner of the shop was clearly seen.
The atmospherein the original Häagen-Dazs shop was uncomfortable and crowded. The seats were small and congregated, the luminous lighting of the whole shop and the large openings to the passerby decrease privacy to customers, all of which forced people to eat quickly and pushed out people after they bought their food, In order to encourage a longer and better quality of stay for the customers, more varieties of sittings in different illuminated environment on different floors are created in this speculative design. Based on their own liking and mood, customers could select different floors according to their own preference. The two major concepts were to create natural lighting by allowing natural sunlight to enter the shop, so customers could feel cozy and contented during the stay; and improving the privacy of workers and customers.
