Renovating the 102 Dwellings, Residual Spaces between towers are replaced with a TETRIS living space. Creating new communal spaces.

REPLACING THE TOWERS

The area left by taking out one of the interlocking towers creates a residual space on the two sides of each block. This kind of irregularity inspired me to use the idea of Tetris stacking where the residual space forming between the old and new could allow more communal space to be added to the site. Through replacing two of the towers and replaced with new unit modules interlocking together with holes and gaps, it create more opportunities of communal space to appear in different area on each floor.

RESIDUAL SPACES

The tetrominoes in the game Tetris is started with square units, forming different combinations of 4 blocks. Continuing this line, the units are also formed from squares of functions. For instance, kitchen, bedroom, toilet, living room and storage. Each square block has its own function in the dwelling. In the Tetris game, the player can move the pieces laterally and rotate them until they touch the bottom of the field or land on a piece that had been placed before it. The speed of the falling pieces increases with each level and creating unwilling holes in the field. However, stacking up the residual space with Tetris units, the holes created within are instead the communal opportunities in the following design for people to use.
